Retro Shopping Volume 2 - Shopping Spree
It is summer and hot again. Why not return to the nice temperature controlled environment inside the malls one more time? Browse all the exotic goods from all over the world, walking up and down the isles in a dreamy waltz while the soft music echoes through the muzak system and then grab a bite to eat at one of the convenient placed coffee shops. This compilation is the continuation of my 'Retro Shopping' series. The first one was released in July last year and became very popular among the Ultra Swank visitors. The second one features the same kind of happy, cheerful, instrumental easy going music that was played in malls during the 50s and 60s. As a bonus I have included a special montage with shopping related jingles and commercials, just to help you get in the mood. Grab it while supplies last! Feedback is as always appreciated.

My name is Chris and I live in Sweden. I love the 50s and 60s lifestyle and design. I am very fascinated by the architecture of the period too, for instance googie, modernism, the work of Joseph Eichler, John Lautner and Arne Jacobsen's international style. I have a large archive with space-age, library, bossa, cocktail, retro soundtracks and exotica music. I also believe that things were better in the old days.

Do you happen to have any more tracks that were used in Ren and Stimpy? A few of the songs on this latest compilation were used in the show, and it would be cool to have more of those.

To answer the question about the Ren & Stimpy music, I am not sure. Have not seen that show in many years and don't remember what music they used. I probably have most of the songs they used in the show though. Got any track names for me to search for?

Unfortunately no. There were some tracks that were lifted from the Capitol Records Hi-Q library, but I don't know their names. There was a bouncy tune used in "A Yard Too Far" when Ren is using the baboon puppet and is unknowingly fed maggots instead of candy. Do you have that one?
There's also a track heard in "The Cat That Laid the Golden Hairball" when Ren and Stimpy begin hairball production on the assembly line. It's an industry-type piece, busy-sounding. I could see that playing in the mall, too.

This collection fits well with the aesthetic of your blog. I've always loved this kind of music, especially when accompanied by images of swiftly moving cars, sunny afternoons, swaying palms, and modern architecture.

Thanks for sharing another great assortment of beautiful background music! I especially enjoyed track #25, "Attention All Shoppers". I would very much enjoy being able to download some of these types of commercials sometime, if you ever decide to upload them individually (without the reverb effects). These really take me back to when I was a kid in the 60's!....Tom

Thank you all for your comments! I might upload the jingles separately sometime. The idea of the bonus track was to make some kind of college that sounded like it was recorded in a mall, with the reverb, delay and lo-fi quality.
Thank you baikinange for your tip, I will definitely check out that Captiol record, I have something similar in my archive, but for entertaining guests.

I feel like the music would sound even better if I were driving a 62-66 Thunderbird to the Yacht Club at the Salton Sea. This music absolutely changes the year a person is in. Of course I was only 5 in 1966 and the Yacht Club was cool. Now I'm 46 and the Salton Sea is an ecological disaster. Chris, you have an absolute knack not only to impress when you post a compilation but to make it one that people keep listening to. I can honestly say I have never grown tired of any of your compilations.

The final track says it most! Only a shame I couldn't be there when it was like that in my parents' generation.
This reminds me of the "Westgate Villiage Shopping Center" in town that has currently been gutted and replaced by a couple lousy buildings with no real variety besides the addition of a Costco.

I downloaded it over three months ago, "Music for Childrfens Activities" is discussed on Malls of America as a Seely-Loose Peirce from Capitl -- specifically it is by Hal Bluestone and Emil Cadkin for Capitol. A Light Activity was by Goerdie Hormel, also from Capitol/Seely. Phil Green, Spencer Moore, Ed Lund, Jack Shaindlin, Roger Roger,jack Meakin, David Meakin, Jack Cookerly, and Bill Loose contributed.:-)
